A long break

I've had a long break from writing my blog. Its been an incredibly busy year since winning the Mobile Artist/Photographer of the Year. I've been involved in many different projects that have taken all my time. Picture making hasn't stopped however and I have been exploring portraiture for the last year, feeling like I wanted to break with Landscape for a bit and try something new. Soon I am making a trip to the Small Isles and hope to document my stay on a remote island for two weeks. Very excited about this. Here are some of the heads I have been constructing lately by literally experimenting with overlays and painting together on my ipad.

A touch of red

Over the last few weeks I have been working on a series of portraits and self portraits using the app SlowShutterCam. I really love the effects of slow shutter work with its blur and distortions and not knowing what you might end up with, I find it endlessly fascinating and rewarding. 

Here I've put together the best of the images that incorporate the colour red. It seems to really sing in this sort of work.

Traces of movement and mystery....

Part of a self portrait series I have been working on using the app SlowShutterCam.

What I love most about this app are the unpredictable and atmospheric outcomes it produces particularly when capturing movement. It takes many many attempts but then occasionally delivers an absolute beauty so a lot of patience and perseverance is required. What I like most in these pictures are not just the feeling of movement but the subtle traces of patterns and details in the clothing and the shadowy forms. I'm really interested in developing this series but also in maybe applying it to winter landscapes later in the year.
